I am new to learning music theory. I began learning the guitar three years ago. I have become a little obsessed by it and sometimes frustrated by my lack of ability to play. One thing that I have found difficult is reading and counting rhythm. I have watched videos and found them fairly helpful but I still had issues understanding how to count the rhythm in real time. This course takes one through the basic understanding of notes and rests and how to count through a system of lessons all adding to ones knowledge and increasing in complexity. There are study papers and The instructor takes the student through examples, reinforcing the learning. I printed out all the lesson sheets and by regularly practicing the reading and clapping exercises i find that i am becoming better at reading rhythm and look forward to being able to instinctively read and play rhythms. I commend this course. It is a well designed aid to learning a complex skill that can only improve a players ability.

Just Wow, I had a blockade from the early ages where they kicked me out of Music School because I didn’t get this at the age of 7. So, I just moved on making music for 20+ years, without ever being able to understand this with various teachers and tutorials. Now – No More Problems with the help of this tutorial! Really helpful, easy to progress through exercises – I recommend it to anybody trying to learn to read rhythms.

I got this book when it came out, basically to learn how to explain rhythm to other people, specially to my kid. It ended up being a fantastic tool that takes you from the very basics up to more advanced rhythmic concepts. In part thanks to this book, my kid is today a phenomenal sight-reader. I would like to mention that Edina is mostly known as a flamenco guitar player, but this book isn’t specific to guitar or to flamenco. Myself, I play mostly rock (guitar and vocals) and my kid plays mostly jazz and classical (piano and trumpet), and we have both benefited from it. The piano teacher of my kid was fascinated with the pedagogical approach of this book, so she proposed it as reference material for some music programs in the Broward County, Florida. So, no matter your level, instrument or preferred musical genre, I’m sure you’ll find something interesting in this book, mostly due to its didactic value and friendly tone. Highly recommended. As a guitar player who has struggled with rhythms for years, this book was an eye opener. Edina breaks things down so it is easy to follow and work through. Did I mention I am in my seventies? Yes we can still learn and enjoy as well as improve. Thank you Edina for helping on my journey.
